What to tell us

• Your suburb — Parramatta, Harris Park, Westmead, North Parramatta, Granville, Rydalmere, Oatlands, Dundas or nearby.
• Apartment or house.
• For apartments: high-rise with a lift, or a walk-up? Roughly when was the building completed? Have you spoken to the strata manager yet?
• What the room is — main bathroom, ensuite, powder room, laundry, or a combined bathroom-laundry.
• Roughly how big. "About 2 by 2.4" is enough to place it in a band.
• Owner-occupied or rented. If rented, when does the tenancy end?
• Is anything leaking? If so, into where?
• Photos of the existing room.

If your building is new and something is leaking

Before contacting us, report it in writing to your strata manager. A leaking bathroom in a building less than about six years old may be a defect covered by statutory warranty. We would rather you checked that first.

Why we insist on measuring

A phone estimate for an apartment bathroom is close to worthless. By-laws, access, the slab, the waste positions and the building's ventilation all affect the price, and none of them can be judged down a phone line.

What happens next

1. A measure, including evenings and weekends.
2. Asbestos testing in walk-ups and older houses, before the price is final.
3. A written, itemised quote and, for apartments, the technical documents for the owners corporation.
4. Strata approval at a general meeting.
5. Selections locked and materials ordered.
6. Three to four weeks on site.
